Trump may be known for his explosive outbursts and lack of speech control; however, after the release of a recording of an incident dating back to 2005, his latest rant might just be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
The recording was made during a bus ride with Access Hollywood. The audio covers Trump and Billy Bush talking on the bus as they arrive for a guest appearance. You can clearly hear Donald Trump say, “I did try to f*ck her, she was married.” But that didn’t end the conversation. In fact, the released video goes on for over three minutes with other lewd and outrageous comments.
“I moved on her like a bitch” Trump continued as he gloated to Billy Bush about his attempt to have sex with a woman, even going as far as to say, “when you’re a star, they let you do it.”
The Statement in 2005
Trump quickly went on the defensive, issuing a statement on Friday, in which he admitted, “I said it, I was wrong, and I apologize.”
“I’ve never said I’m a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I’m not. I’ve said and done things I regret, and the words released today on this more-than-a-decade-old video are one of them. Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am,” Trump said.
Trump didn’t spend the entire time issuing an apology. Instead, he tried to redirect the focus to the upcoming election and telling America that this is a “distraction” to what matters, and followed up with accusations against Hillary Clinton’s career performance.
The Republicans Cringe Once Again
An all-too-common theme with the Republican party, many reluctant supporters are pulling their endorsement once again due to Trump’s ongoing failure to show the level of respect and professionalism needed to be President of the United States.
There is no doubt that this has rocked the Republican Party and it will take weeks to mend fences as the party continues to divide.
Needless to say, this is a time frame that Trump frankly doesn’t have. While most lawmakers and candidates who back Trump have not wavered, others have pulled their endorsement, while some are even asking Trump to withdraw from the race.
“This can’t continue,” stated Sen. Mike Lee. The Utah Republican released a video asking that Trump withdraw from the race. “It’s time for us not to settle. It’s time for us to expect more.”
The Point of Impact
With only a few days to go before the second debate, and mere weeks from the presidential election, this could be the final straw for the Trump campaign. At the very least, it severely damages his party’s united stand, giving way for the Democratic Party to dominate the next debate and push ahead even further in the polls.
Hillary Clinton has continued to hammer the issue of Trump and his antics against women, citing his name calling including, “Miss Piggy.” With Sunday just around the corner, this audio clip offers yet one more notch on the belt of Clinton and a pain point to drive home to the voters during the debate.
Trump has been able to shoulder some of the biggest controversies of any presidential candidate, from directly asking Russia to commit cyber warfare on the United States, to failing to release his taxes, insulting reporters with disability and now a full revelation on how he thinks and treats women.
Can Trump maintain his Teflon Don reputation, or will this latest frenzy finally take down the billionaire giant?
