The man behind one of Nigeria’s biggest hits, “Duro”, singer-songwriter, musician, dancer, and producer Tekno Miles’ real name is Augustine Miles Kelechi. He was born on December 17, 1992 in Bauchi, Bauchi State, Nigeria. When he was eight years old his parents enrolled him in a performance arts school where he learned how to play both the guitar and piano. Tekno’s early interest in music was due to being inspired by the personal tastes of his parents.
He scored his first contract with K-Money Entertainment and released his debut in early 2013, the single named “Holiday”, featured vocals by Davido. In fact, the previous year, Tekno had been performing “Onye Ne Kwu” (his remix of Ice Prince’s “Oleku”) in Abuja when he caught the eye of the comedian Julius Agwu. That was also where he was spotted by Iyanya and Ubi Franklyn, the manager of the record label Made Men Music Group (MMMG). They befriended Tekno and eventually persuaded him into relocating to Lagos in order to further his career in music.
He signed a deal with MMMG on October 5, 2013 and soon put out such singles as “Anything” and “Dance”. Tekno earned a nomination in the category of “Best New Act of the Year” at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2014. He released the song “Duro”, produced by DJ Coublon, on June 18 of the following year. It climbed to the top of the charts in the country as well as on the international scene. It reached number five on Capital XTRA‘s “Afrobeats Chart: Top 10” in September of 2015.
The success spurred him on and he recorded and dropped a remix of the song–with guest artists Phyno and Flavour N’abania–on November 16, 2015. A few days later he put out another single named “Wash” produced by DJ Coublon
Tekno’s signature sound has grown to become a musical mashup of multiple genres including Afrobeat, hip hop, R&B, rap and soul. Now, being called “the Chris Brown of Nigeria,” his current resume includes more than 33 singles with many more to come. His single “Duro” is already in the record books as one of the best and most popular African wedding songs to date.
