On Saturday March 21st legendary DJ D-Nice hosted what is probably the worlds largest online party to date. The party was attended by celebrities like Michelle Obama, Oprah, Rihanna, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz and even Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden. Going by the hashtag #ClubQuarantine, the party started in the late afternoon and continued well into the early hours of Sunday morning.
D-Nice has been hosting social distancing Instagram live parties ever since the coronavirus quarantine edicts came into place in the advent of the pandemic. Underscoring the social nature of human beings, the dance parties have established a way for people to express their need to connect without actually touching. Social media technology has obviously played a major role in facilitating this. People danced, laughed and socialized together, but without endangering each other. Other musicians who have given online concerts are Coldplay’s Chris Martin and John Legend. It may become a future trend.
At one point there were over 100,000 people jamming at the Instagram party. The coronavirus knows no boundaries, and no one is immune to it. But we can certainly dance the night away to make us feel better, socialize and reduce the emotional stress of dealing with a global pandemic.
You can follow DJ D-Nice to find out when his next party is. Erikah Badu is also slated to give an online concert soon. Dance away!
