The prolific singer known as Mr. Eazi was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He attended elementary and secondary school in Lagos, Nigeria. Upon graduating he moved to Ghana where he attended the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, located in Kumasi, Ghana, where he graduated as a mechanical engineer. He told Bella Najia that while he was still in school he discovered that his fellow students “loved luxury” so he used his school money to buy a car and start his own Uber-type business. The entrepreneurship “sparked something” in him and he decided he really wanted to venture out. He started recording music in his last year of school. He felt he could “do something bigger” after he graduated.
Mr. Eazi has been based out of Ghana since 2007, but feels like “a roaming ambassador.” Now an international performer, he notes, “I haven’t even been to Ghana in a while. I thought London [England] was my home . . . then I thought Houston, [Texas, U.S.A.] was my home and now I think Lagos is my home.” His signature sound has currently become a mix of Afro-pop and soul. His resume includes over a dozen singles and several guest appearances and collaborative efforts; his debut disc was an EP titled About To Blow. His debut single, which dropped in 2012, was christened “Pipi Dance”. One of his more recent singles and perhaps more popular songs is a 2016 remix of his 2013 song “Bankulize” which features Burna Boy. Fan favorites include his tracks “Skin Tight” and “Sample You” from last year and “Dance For Me”, “Body” and “Leg Over,” all released earlier this year.
Over the past few years, he has worked with a multitude of artists in the Ghanaian music industry including Efya, Pappy Kojo, and Sarkodie. Despite being controversially disqualified from the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for not actually being a citizen of the country, this past year has been a great one for the vocalist. His biggest fans include Beady Bright and DJ Click. He announced at the start of the year that his premiere platter, a full-length studio album, would be titled Life is Eazi Vol. 1, produced by his best friend DJ Juls. In May 2016, he signed with the record label Starboy Worldwide.
