Lupita Nyong’o owned the red carpet on Sunday night at the gala presentation of her new film, Queen of Katwe, at the Toronto International Film Festival. The actress wore a breathtaking yellow and blue gown with a unique and intricately-detailed bodice created by House of Herrera. The star’s stunning look was accessorized with a blue silk head wrap and jewelry from Tiffany & Co., valued at over $600K.
Lupita’s latest film, directed by Mira Nair, had its world premiere at the festival. The movie also stars David Oyelowo and young newcomer, Madina Nalwanga in the title role as Phiona Mutesi, the real-life young Ugandan girl who became an international chess champion. Nyong’o plays Phiona’s mother, a role that the talented and versatile actress says she found challenging, yet very rewarding, to play.
The red-carpet domination continued later as the Oscar-winning artist attended a party held by Vanity Fair and Tiffany & Co. Nyong’o was the guest of honor and was recognized by the two organizations for her “legendary style”–most definitely a well-deserved accolade.
Queen of Katwe is already receiving a lot of buzz even before its official release. Don’t miss Lupita Nyong’o and the rest of the cast onscreen when the film opens in theaters September 23rd.
