Karabo Mathang has accomplished much in her short 28 year life. She has the distinction of being the first woman in South Africa to be FIFA accredited soccer agent. No doubt that she will continue far into the future to positively affect the people of South Africa, not to mention around the globe.
Childhood memories
Mathang grew up in Orlando East, Soweto in South Africa. She grew up in a community that cheered loudly at soccer matches, and attended the stadium events regularly with her father. Such were the beginnings of her self-driven career.
Inspirational Actions
Years later a business partner suggested that she should become an accredited SAFA (South African Football Association) agent. She set her goal and went on to form her own company, P Management, with the vision to negotiate lucrative contracts for amateur players, as well as coaches in South Africa. This then served as a launchpad for her inspirational career, all the way to FIFA accreditation. Mathang helps make her clients’ dreams come true by securing them great careers and worthwhile endorsements. She inspires women in South Africa and the rest of Africa to break through gender barriers and go for their dreams.
Success, All Before Age 30
Today Mathang successfully runs P Management – and she is not even 30 years old yet! The focus of the business is on facilitating athlete contracts but also provides other sports-related services, including marketing and PR, the acquisition of endorsement deals, and event management.
As for family, Mathang is married and has two children. She successfully balances family with career, providing a positive role model for women around the world.
The Journey has Not Been Easy
What highlights Karabo Mathang’s success all the more is one obstacle she had to overcome to get to the high point in her sports career. Mathang took the FIFA agents’ exam twice before passing on the third try. Had she given up right away, she might not have become the first South African female in her career field. Certainly it is a lesson to keep trying, not give up, and to look forward to better days.
Karabo Mathang has powered through a male-dominated sector of employment. Rather than stopping there, she continues to grow her business and to study for her postgraduate LLB degree to be able to pursue sports law as an extension of her company.
