Kamal Harris made history on Saturday November 7th as the first female, and first Black vice president elected in the United States. Kamala, the daughter of two immigrants from India and Jamaica, has spoken about how her heritage has shaped her view of the world.
Kamala’s father, Donald Harris, is a retired Stanford economics professor, who came from Jamaica in the 1960’s and settled in California. There he met Kamala’s mother, Shyamala Gopalan at Berkeley where they were married in 1963.
Women, immigrants and progressives around the world celebrated Kamala’s election. Little girls everywhere will surely derive inspiration for the future of female empowerment.
