Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have both tested positive for the coronavirus. The actor is in Australia filming the movie Elvis. He reportedly began feeling tired and unwell, and thought he had a cold. His wife Rita also reported having mild chills which they assumed was the common cold. In an abundance of caution, both got tested for coronavirus, which turned out positive. The actor and his wife are currently quarantined and receiving treatment.
There are some questions as to whether the couple would have been tested as quickly if they were in the United States, due to the lack of urgently needed testing kits in America. Some argue that because of the couple’s A-list status they probably would have had access to immediate testing capabilities. Others say it was Australia’s early preparedness which contributed to the quick diagnosis and quick response to treatment for the actor and his wife.
The sports world has also been affected, with the NBA cancelling its entire roster of games for the basketball season, after two Utah Jazz players tested positive for the virus. Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, said, “this is something out of a movie.” Meanwhile, New York State has banned gatherings of 500 people and above, which is sure to have a devastating impact on Broadway and the movie industries.
