Still strikingly handsome at age 55, Brad Pitt continues his award-winning acting career with his latest leading role in Ad Astra. In this sci-fi film, the Hollywood star plays an astronaut in search of his father who went missing during a space mission. A dark and atmospheric piece, the film shows a different side of the actor than fans may be used to seeing. His role as the stoic, yet troubled, Major Roy McBride sent the actor on a journey of his own of self-reflection and self-discovery. Pitt describes how the movie helped him to get in touch with his own feelings as both a dad and as a son, helping him to be open and honest about his feelings as a man. Now well into his middle age, the actor has experienced the highs and lows of stardom, from box-office success to two highly-publicized divorces, a battle with alcoholism and a recent stint in rehab. At this stage in his life, Pitt admits that he thinks about growing older and how he will look back at his life. He muses that he would like to end with “grace, and full acceptance,” like David Bowie.
From Pitt’s early relationships with Gwyneth Paltrow and other actresses, to his marriages and divorces from Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie, the actor’s personal life has made headlines as often as his films. Gossip columnists regularly reported on all aspects of his relationships, from his affair with Jolie while still married to Aniston, his divorce from the Friends actress, and his eventual tumultuous marriage to Jolie. The headlines further exploded with his second divorce and the custody battles for the couple’s six children.
In 2018, Pitt admitted that drinking led to his second divorce. He talked about his drinking and drugging since college and how he quit everything except alcohol. Pitt further discussed how drinking helped him to cope with his feelings and the stress of his failing marriage. He says he’s sobered now through his time spent in rehab and he is using therapy to address issues he says led to his drinking. Brad Pitt remains focused on his children and career. He wants to be a better example for his kids and himself.
