Despite high drama and a stunning attempt at insurrection by a mob of disaffected Trump supporters, members of congress still affirmed Joe Biden’s win in the November 2020 elections. In a display that disrupted the traditionally solemn certification event, viewers around the world were shocked at the hours long siege that delayed, but did not prevent, the affirmation of the voters choice for President. The Capitol was restored and secured, but not before four people died, including one shooting incident on the Capitol grounds.
According to CNN, approximately 6,200 National Guardsmen have been mobilized to Washington, DC.
The guardsmen have been deployed from several states, including New York, Maryland and New Jersey.
In addition, 1,100 members of the DC National Guard were activated on Wednesday to assist in quelling the siege at the Capitol building.
In further news, the FBI is requesting tips, information, videos and photos from social media to help identify the insurrectionists at the US Capitol on Wednesday.
President elect Biden condemned the violence, stating: “…democracy is fragile, to preserve it requires people of goodwill.”
