Trump’s been on a roll and not in a good way. In his first few days of office, Trump has signed two significant executive orders causing shockwaves across the nation and the world, aiming to make a broad sweep against immigration. Specifically, Trump has ordered the building of the “Mexican Wall” and slammed the door shut on citizens of seven Muslim countries from entering the United States. Trump told the press on Wednesday that, “A nation without borders is not a nation. Beginning today, the United States of America gets back control of its borders.” The order plans to impose a 20% import tax on Mexican goods entering the US to pay for the cost of building the wall. While he admits he’s open to other options, this strategy appears the be the one with the most support for the action.
Of course, Mexico is outraged, and President Enrique Peña Nieto canceled his meeting with the president and stated, “I’ve said time and again; Mexico won’t pay for any wall. I regret and condemn the decision of the United States to continue construction of a wall that, for years, has divided us instead of uniting us. Mexico doesn’t believe in walls.” Trump faced serious opposition for his recent ban on Muslim immigrants after a shattering scene Saturday as hundreds of Muslims were detained at airports across the nation. The outrage reached across the globe as citizens, foreign leaders, and prominent officials voiced their stance on the action, causing one judge to place an emergency stay on the order in New York.
While Trump continues to “make good” on his promises, the country is in shock at how fast our country is being divided up, labeled, and separated from the world. America, once known as the “Land of the Free,” is quickly becoming the Divided States of America.
