It was yet another awkward moment of Donald Trump interacting with a woman. This time, Theresa May—Britain’s Prime Minister. The moment came after the two met and talked about various topics, including the recent “Brexit” strategy, and the future relationship between the two countries.Trump supported Brexit calling it a “blessing to the world” and stated that he thinks “it will go down as a fantastic thing for the United Kingdom.” May was certainly a bit more “political” in her responses about the meeting, telling the press, “I think if you look at the approach we are both taking, one of the things we have in common is we want to put the interests of ordinary working people up there, center stage.”
While many took the hand-holding act as being “chivalrous,” others are calling Trump out on the gesture, stating that it was Trump’s “fear of stairs” that prompted him to grab hold of May during their walk. Apparently, some are saying that Trump suffers from bathmophobia, a condition which causes extreme fear of stairs or slopes. That fear may have inadvertently caused Trump to grab ahold of Theresa May without even thinking about it; but as a president, every action has a purpose, and the world was indeed watching.
Regardless of the reason Trump grabbed the hand of Theresa May, many still see the interaction as positive and read it as meaning that the two leaders have a “special relationship.” While Trump continues to meet with various world leaders, everyone is watching closely how he interacts, speaks and treats those he visits.
