Shamea Morton from The Real Housewives of Atlanta has tied the knot in a stunning Kenyan ceremony. Shamea and husband Gerald Mwangi dated for over three years before he popped the question. A native of Kenya, Gerald has made his home in Atlanta since moving to the United States to attend college. The two plan to start a family in Atlanta, but it was back home in Nyeri, Kenya where the couple became man and wife.
Shamea is a consummate performer who has worked as an NFL cheerleader, an actress, a dancer, a singer, and a radio host. She is best known, though, for her time on the popular Bravo Housewives series. She appeared on and off the reality show for years and was involved in some serious drama during Season 8 of the show. Shamea first met Gerald at the Rose Bar nightclub but the two didn’t really hit it off until later through friends. Gerald is a businessman and before proposing to Shamea, he wanted to take her to his homeland. The couple traveled to Africa a few times before the wedding. Shamea’s first visit was in January 2016. Sure enough, Gerald put a ring on it shortly thereafter. In April, they had a Dowry & Traditional Kikuyu Wedding Ceremony in advance of their Western ceremony.
Unlike their colorful traditional ceremony, this month’s wedding was what you’d expect to see at an American wedding: a gorgeous white gown, peach bridesmaid’s dresses for the Georgia peach bride, and tuxes for the guys. Along with several others from the show, Shamea’s RHOA pal Kandi Burruss was there to witness the nuptials. Kandi posted many photos of the beautiful ceremony. The reception and dance were also very American. Shamea put her dance training to excellent use with an elaborately choreographed routine. She didn’t hold back with her moves and hubby Gerald seemed to enjoy it. Many of the Kenyan guests, however, were reportedly not pleased. Her choice to perform to a Nigerian song at a Kenyan wedding was a problem for many. Her super short dress and scandalous moves may have been too much for others. Many speculated that Shamea’s in-laws couldn’t have been too happy with the performance.
