It’s official, groundbreaking, and the ring is a stunner!
Britain’s Royal Palace announced Monday morning that Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle are engaged. The news came straight from the office of Harry’s father Prince Charles, according to People magazine. The statement also mentioned that the beautiful couple had become engaged earlier in the month. Markle has met Queen Elizabeth ll, and Harry has received the blessing of Markle’s parents for her hand in marriage.
This is a historic day in several ways, says Time magazine, and most notably for Britain, Meghan Markle will become the first mixed-race princess. She was born to an African-American mother and white father. She is also divorced, an American, was raised Catholic and is an actress/celebrity. Prince Harry, 33, and Meghan Markle, 36, are thrilled beyond words and met at Kensington Palace’s Sunken Garden Monday morning for the media photocall. The spot was a favorite of the late Princess Diana, Harry’s mother. As far as falling in love, he knew “she was the one” from “the very first time we met.” They were in a secret courtship for about six months.
The couple held hands, and Harry appeared somewhat nervous. She elegantly wore a white wrap coat from Line the Label over a deep green dress designed by P.A.R.O.S.H. Nude suede heels with wraparound ties completed her engagement day ensemble. Harry looked dapper in a blue suit, white shirt and navy tie. The prince is fifth in line to the British throne. The engagement ring is always of the utmost concern, and this one does not disappoint. Prince Harry designed Markle’s three-stone stunner himself.
The ring dazzles in a most sentimental way because two of the stones come straight from Princess Diana’s personal collection and the central diamond via Botswana. Check out the ring from every angle here. The couple will wed in spring of 2018 and live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
Congratulations, Harry and Meghan!
