When it comes to luxury fashion for women, the Christie Brown label is one to watch. It’s all about Ghanaian fashion and the keen aesthetic eye of breakout star designer Aisha Obuobi. The CB brand is branching out across the globe and delivering unique beauty from Ghana for the world to fall in love. Christie Brown garments exude a richness in color, patterns, wax print, and sensuous draping of fabrics that honor her culture and people.
Obuobi is not only designing beautiful wardrobe pieces and accessories, but in her opinion, she is truly making “a statement through her creations that celebrate femininity of the African woman” as she told Afroelle magazine. Her designs offer a modern, forward aesthetic steeped deeply in African tradition. The brand was named after Obuobi’s grandmother Christie Brown, who was an incredible fashion seamstress, and launched in 2008. She describes the modern African woman as her muse, infusing both traditional and contemporary flare into visual opulence.
Obuobi’s stunning designs have been recognized by high profile fashion magazines such as Vogue Ialia, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and others, having all written about the young designer and her Ghanaian roots and inspiring style influence. She also won the Emerging Designer of the Year Award in 2009 at the Arise Africa Fashion Week. In 2010, Christie Brown was the only Ghanaian label represented at Arise L’Afrique-A-Porter during Paris Fashion Week, attracting notable fans such as Beyonce and Alicia Keys. On a personal level, the designer is a stunning beauty and incredibly humble about her designs for the modern woman as well as her growing international fan base.
