It’s that exciting time of year when style lovers and style creators come together for New York Fashion Week (Feb. 8-16). It’s a huge event, and all eyes on are on the fashion capital and the amazing collections from designers ready to hit the runway.
One of the key moments will be held midway on Monday, February 12. A red carpet gathering at Industria in Greenwich Village will feature Marvel Studios and “Black Panther: Welcome to Wakanda.”
The fashion-fabulous evening will showcase the talents of 10 designers that include runway’s elite like Ikire Jones and LaQuan Smith. The designers will be presenting one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by the movie’s characters and theme.
“Black Panther” is significant because it’s the first superhero movie to star a black lead character, played by Chadwick Boseman. Some of the African-American stars from the cast include Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett and Forest Whitaker.
NYFW is always hectic, thrilling and a week of beautiful clothing and surprises.
At the moment, here are four hot African-American designers set to appear in the esteemed lineup:
Cushnie et Ochs (Feb. 9): Carly Cushnie and partner Michelle Ochs make sexy, minimalist-style clothing with modern luxury for cool girls.
Telfar (Feb. 9): The Liberian-American designer won the 2017 Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund award. He has collaborated with Solange Knowles in the past. His unisex clothing attitude is fashion-forward.
Pyer Moss (Feb. 10): His striking designs have caught the eye of many fans, and he enjoys creating hip clothing that offers social commentary.
LaQuan Smith (Feb. 14): He admits that he makes sexy styles in luxury fabrics. Just ask Cardi B, Beyonce and Rihanna about his brand. He’s a NYFW favorite of Vogue.
